Deborah was born in 1949. She was my aunt, my grandma's 2nd child. Sara
Farina from the CHD Quilt counsel asked me to tell my grandma about the CHD
quilt. I am so glad that I did. When Deborah passed away, over 53 years
ago, people didn't talk about it. They felt it was better to just "forget
about it." I called my grandma one night and told her all about the CHD
Quilt. Then, I asked her if she would like a square made for Deborah. Her
first response was, "No, that happened so long ago." I explained to grandma
that it didn't matter how long ago it happened, it was a beautiful way to
have them be remembered and in the process bring awareness to CHD's, the
thing that took both of our babies lives. She then replied with, "Well, that
sounds good, OK then." We talked a little bit more about it, I asked
Deborah's full name, birth and death dates and if she knew what defect
Deborah was born with, she didn't, they just didn't know about CHD back then.
I am so glad that Sara suggested asking my grandma about the CHD Quilt, I
could just tell from grandma's voice that she was so happy to know that
Deborah will never be forgotten.
